Commercialization of Sodium Battery Packs Underway
2025.07.25
CIP Energy announced on the 25th that it has been selected for the “2025 Senior Technical Experts Utilization Corporate Support Program” by the Pohang Materials & Industry Advancement Institute (POMIA) for the project “Commercialization of Sodium Battery Pack Product Development.”

A CIP Energy representative stated, “We aim to strengthen our technological competitiveness through on-site technical advisory and joint research on core technologies, which is expected to accelerate the commercialization of sodium secondary batteries.”

CIP Energy is a company with expertise in anode material design and battery pack assembly in the sodium-ion battery sector. Its ability to internalize core technologies and develop commercial products earned high evaluation points.

Collaboration with Professor Cho Sung-kyu’s lab at Korea Polytechnic University, Pohang Campus, is also considered an advantage. The lab has achieved various results in lithium and sodium secondary battery research. Together, CIP Energy and Professor Cho’s lab have established a demonstration-oriented cooperation model covering sodium battery design, prototype production, and performance evaluation.

Through this program, CIP Energy expects to internalize the entire process of design, manufacturing, and performance verification, enabling the creation of battery pack designs suitable for mass production.

The company will also carry out certification procedures (domestic and international safety and performance standards) based on demonstration data from the collaboration, while securing materials for patent applications and technology transfer.

CIP Energy plans to complete the design and prototype production of sodium battery packs by the second half of 2025, followed by demonstration experiments with Professor Cho’s research team. In 2026, the company intends to obtain domestic and international certifications and implement production processes based on the demonstration results.

A CIP Energy representative added, “We will progressively advance commercialization to expand battery pack production and enter the global market.”
