Establishment of Sodium Battery Pack Production Base
2025.07.29
CIP Energy announced on the 29th that it has recently established a branch office and factory at the Seodaegu Industrial Complex Knowledge Industry Center in Daegu.
The establishment aims to produce next-generation sodium-ion battery packs domestically. The company plans to reduce import dependence and supply chain risks by manufacturing sodium battery packs in Korea.
By leveraging its R&D center in Pohang and the manufacturing plant in Daegu, CIP Energy will build an integrated development and production system covering everything from sodium secondary battery materials to battery packs.
The company also plans to form industry-academia-research collaborations with local universities, research institutes, and small- to mid-sized enterprises in Daegu to support research cooperation and talent acquisition. It will also benefit from policy incentives, including support programs for companies in the Seodaegu Industrial Complex and industrial complex regeneration projects.
A CIP Energy representative said, “Sodium batteries are cheaper in raw material costs and safer than lithium-ion batteries. We plan to quickly expand into home ESS (energy storage systems), electric two-wheelers, and industrial backup power applications.”
The Seodaegu Industrial Complex Knowledge Industry Center provides a space with concentrated manufacturing facilities and corporate support infrastructure. The company stated that it offers an ideal environment for prototype development and initial commercialization of sodium battery packs.
A CIP Energy representative added, “Through this, we will establish a domestic, demand-oriented battery pack supply chain and position ourselves as a strategic partner in the Daegu-based eco-friendly energy industry.”
