Sodium Battery Pack Entry into the Kenyan Market
2025.08.04
CIP Energy announced on the 4th that it is entering the Kenyan energy market with its self-developed sodium battery packs.

CIP Energy is a company promoting the commercialization of sodium-based battery packs. According to the company, sodium batteries have advantages over lithium in terms of safety and cost.

A company representative said, “The high-capacity, high-stability, and long-life battery pack prototypes have already passed performance tests. We plan to supply prototypes from our domestic production line in the second half of this year,” adding, “We also plan to establish a mass production system in the future.”

Recently, a representative in charge of energy from the Kenya Chamber of Commerce visited CIP Energy’s sodium battery pack production plant in Daegu. On-site, they received a briefing on the production process and discussed strengthening export cooperation between the two countries.

The Kenyan government is promoting pilot villages with home ESS (energy storage systems) using sodium batteries, particularly in rural areas with insufficient power grids. CIP Energy will participate as the supplier of the ESS core modules for this project.

In addition, major Kenyan cities such as Nairobi and Mombasa require battery pack infrastructure to expand shared mobility services. CIP Energy is negotiating to supply sodium battery packs as a strategic partner for this market.

Baek Seung-min, CEO of CIP Energy, said, “Based on our successful business in Kenya, we plan to expand to neighboring East African countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zambia. The establishment of shared batteries, ESS, and mobility infrastructure in Kenya is expected to serve as a foothold for entering nearby countries.”
